Health Benefits of Weight loss teas like WuYi Tea

Tea in all its forms are easy for the body to process and are perfect for those people who are on a detox or who have weight loss tea organic proofdelicate digestive systems. Unless you add sugar and milk, tea has virtually no calories, so it is a great way to reduce your calorie intake. It’s a great alternative to more fattening drinks such as coffee or sodas. It has been enjoyed by generations as one of the more pleasant and convenient ways of losing weight.

Tea is the most commonly consumed beverage in the world on a par with water. With so many different varieties of tea such as Black, White, Green, WuYi Oolong, Sencha and Puerh, how beneficial are they to our health?

White Tea has the least amount of processing and is said to contain a high level of antioxidants that are linked with helping to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. It also helps to reduce the amount of toxins in the body. It is an uplifting tea, ideal for those who need a pep up or if they are feeling run down. Traditional Chinese Medicine claim that White tea has a cooling effect, particularly a blend called Silver Needle which is commonly used to treat dental problems, inflammation, fevers and skin ailments.

Green Tea also contains a high level of antioxidants. One of its main antioxidant compounds Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), has been studied closely for its health benefits and results have shown it is very effective in weight loss and reducing cholesterol levels. EGCG at its highest concentration is found in the very young, new unopened buds of tips of the plant. Similarly to White Tea it also is thought to have a cooling effect and is widely used to treat inflammation.

Puerh Tea is well established for its weight loss benefits. It enhances the metabolism and helps to breakdown the fat deposits in the body. It is considered to be one of the most helpful of tea varieties in its many useful properties, such as reducing blood lipid content, reducing plaque build up in the arteries and helping to aid digestion. It is also considered to be beneficial in reducing the effects of a hangover if consumed before and after alcohol consumption!

Sencha Tea has high levels of Catechin, a type of polyphenol and a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants destroy free radicals, which can damage the body at the cellular level and make it far more susceptible to cancer, heart disease, and other degenerative diseases.

Black Tea is not as plentiful in health benefits compared to other teas although it still has health benefits of its own. It contains very high levels of the antioxidants Theaflavins and Thearubigins. As well as having the same benefits as general antioxidants do, studies show that these chemicals act as powerful anti-clastogenics which help prevent breakage and breakdown of cells. It is thought to help with circulatory problems as it increases warmth in the body.

WuYi Oolong Tea contains the very highest concentration of Polyphenols. Polyphenols are believed to help fight free radicals which we get regular exposure from though pollutants in the environment, chemicals in food and even those that occur naturally in the body. Oolong is said to be warming, aid digestion, be very cleansing of impurities and help to ease headaches.

Weight Loss Tea & Green Tea – Are they the same?

Are Green Teas and Weight Loss Teas the Same?

Yes and no.  Confused?  Don’t be, it’s really quite simple.Tea Plantation

Chinese Green Tea, Like most other teas,  is made solely from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. They are prepared by undergoing minimal oxidation as they are processed to retain as much of the useful elements as possible green tea originates from China and has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years to promote good health and longevity.  Black tea is more processed and less beneficial.

More recently green tea has been grown in other parts of Asia with different varieties being grown in different areas depending on their specialization in the processing method.  Of course, organically grown tea with minimal processing is best.

Apart from the thousands of years of traditional consumption in China and Japan, green tea has over the past few decades been subjected to intensive scientific and medical studies to determine its many reported health benefits. Green tea has been found to have many properties; it has been shown to reduce the chance of some heart diseases, certain cancers and reducing of high blood pressure. It is the effects that it has on the body when used as a weight loss product that has hit the headlines in recent years. It stimulates the metabolism to enable the body to burn more calories, which in turn burns body fat. This is a process known as thermo genesis. It also causes fat oxidation.

In reality there are only two ways to lose weight, we either reduce energy intake, or increase our energy expenditure. People are quite naturally looking for options that can help safely help raise the metabolism without the need for extensive exercise or effort…

In a clinical study shown in the world famous American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was proven that drinking green tea caused a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), and at the same time having a significant effect on fat oxidation. So it makes sense to purchase a weight loss tea which has the highest antioxidant levels and is more effective in weight loss.

Before the tests some of the effects were originally thought to be down to the amount of caffeine in green tea, but the tests discovered that the tea actually has properties that go beyond the effects that would be caused by caffeine alone. When the researchers carried out tests using the same levels of caffeine that is in green tea, the tests failed to record any change in the metabolism. It was prove that the active ingredients in green tea all interact with each other to promote increased metabolism and fat oxidation.

The test on green tea showed that drinking green tea accounted for a 4% increase in Thermo genesis, (the body’s rate of burning calories), which means substantial implications for weight control when taken daily.

If users are going to incorporate green tea into their weight loss plans, what is the best way to go about it? The best way would be to choose a reputable brand, Tava Tea is the one we recommend, that can offer approved results, research into the best types of green tea and find a blend that incorporates a variety of these into its mix.

Green Tea News

Two important pieces of information on Green Tea came to my attention recently

This is not accidental. My “radar” is turned on for new information about green tea.  I think it’s so important that everyone must be aware of the benefits.

Firstly Dr Jon Barron has written on his site about green tea – an extract of his article follows, as I wouldn’t dare to paraphrase scientific stuff:-

“As I mentioned earlier, the reported benefits of green tea are multitudinous…and well studied. For example, green tea inhibits tumor growth in a variety of cancers, including: breast, lung, and prostate cancers. Specifically, the EGCG in green tea works to suppress angiogenesis, the growth of blood vessels that tumors need to survive. And if that’s not enough — stopping the growth of cancer at the front end — green tea polyphenols have been shown to inhibit metastasis, the spread of cancer at the back end. And finally, EGCG is the first known natural telomerase inhibitor. That is to say, it eliminates the “immortality” of cancer cells which is their trademark and which makes them so deadly. The bottom line is that green tea is particularly effective in destroying the causes of leukemia, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and seems toJapanese woman with green tea provide the best protection known in terms of preventing lung cancer. And green tea seems to be able to almost totally prevent cancer causing DNA damage in smokers — a possible explanation as to why the Japanese, who are among the world’s heaviest smokers, have such a low incidence of lung cancer.

And the benefits of green tea don’t stop there. It has also been shown to be effective in regulating blood sugar, reducing cholesterol and triglycerides, and in reversing the ravages of heart disease. (Incidentally, the Japanese, who drink large amounts of green tea, have some of the lowest rates of cardiovascular disease in the world.)”

However there is a conundrum. What do I mean? Dr Barron referred to it as a Catch 22 situation. Meaning that no-one can claim health benefits for green tea because as he puts it (quoted from his site again):-

“When it comes to herbs and supplements, governments all over the world do everything in their power to prevent you from ever seeing any information at all that might indicate they offer any real health benefits. But like Catch 22, they catch you coming and going.

If you can’t prove the benefits to their satisfaction (and how much more do we need to see on the benefits of green tea), you can’t talk about the benefits because they would amount to unsubstantiated health claims.
On the other hand, if you can prove the benefits, you can’t sell the supplements because they would no longer be supplements. They would be drugs and therefore too valuable to be left in the hands of anyone but the pharmaceutical companies.      Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.”

Do you see the problem?  I guess it’s only a problem if you’re prepared to ignore thousands years of use, and require scientific “evidence”.

Secondly, Mike Adams NaturalNews.com site relates that a nutrient found in green tea (plus grapes and cocoa):-

“could have a significant impact on the brain cell damage that leads to Alzheimer’s disease, according to the results of a new study carried out by scientists at Kings College, London (UK).

A research team headed by Dr Robert Williams, a lead scientist at the Wolfson Centre for Age Related Diseases, examined the effects of epicatechin, a nutrient found abundantly in the three foods, in a model of Alzheimer’s disease and assessed the potential effectiveness it might have to slow signs of deterioration leading to the illness.

Alzheimer’s disease is believed to be caused by a build up of sticky proteins in the brain called ‘amyloid plaques’. Results revealed that epicatechin may prevent their formation.

“We have found that epicatechin protects brain cells from damage. This is interesting because epicatechin and its breakdown products are one of the relatively few flavonoids known to access the brain, suggesting it has the potential to be bioactive in humans”, said Dr Williams.”

For myself I’m prepared to accept the historical evidence and results of newer studies and believe that green tea (or white tea) is actually very good for me, in lots of ways.

Types of Tea

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Tea comes in six types, all from the same plant (camellia sinensis), the difference is in the origin and style and degree of processing.

They are:-

  1. black tea, the most common tea with over 160 million cups consumed every day
  2. green tea which carries significant health benefits
  3. yellow tea slightly green but differently processed
  4. white tea made from the very young tips of the tea plant
  5. Puerh, a precious post-fermented green tea which can cost up to $10,000 for just 100g
  6. Oolong made famous by celebrities including Oprah Winfrey.

Wuyi Cliff tea originated in the Wuyi Mountain region of Fujian. Wuyi Cliff Oolong has long, curly leaves resembling iron shards. The leaves are hand-rolled into the traditional twisted Yan Cha form and pan-fired at their aromatic peak to arrest oxidation. Afterwards they are charcoal-fired in small batches to produce the deep green color and rich flavor that have made this tea one of China’s “Ten Most Famous”. The aroma of the dry leaf is deliciously sweet while the dark amber infusion is soft, smooth and malty.

The restorative and medical properties associated with Pu-erh tea is truly astonishing. Often referred to as the “Wonder Tonic” and the “Medicinal Tea”, Pu-erh tea has been hugely popular in China for over 1700 years. For centuries it was given as a tribute to the Emperor and high ranking officials within the Imperial Courts of China. Its high value and many health benefits lead to high demands and the frequency of the tributes gave it the title “Tribute Tea”.

Accounts on the health benefits and medical use of Pu-erh tea has been documented in various ancient scripts and famous books throughout Chinese history. Pu-erh tea is strongly believed to have wide ranging health benefits from anti aging, prevention of heart disease and cancer, diabetic control, removal of toxins to curing dysentery, inflammation, aiding digestion and weight loss, improving the eyesight, blood circulation and reviving those who are overly intoxicated with alcohol.

She had packed on at least 20 extra pounds that she just could not get rid of. With the wedding just a few months away I gave her the tea to drink daily. Within just a few weeks you could see a noticeable weight loss. She had lost the 20 pounds without even trying . Her dress was designer made for her and we had to take in about 6 inches in the waist.
